Keep your cakes at the peak of Freshness and Flavorful
Cake storage isn’t as easy as you think it is, believe me. When I spent about a year working at my Satvik Eggless Bakery, I learned, keeping a cake fresh and flavorful after a period isn’t easy but I also learned how you can make it possible.
If you love to eat cake or bake, you must have tried many things to preserve your cake at home for a long time but in the end, you have to compromise quality and taste. Preserving cake is an essential procedure that should be paid attention to as well.
For this, make sure to first let your newly baked cake cool down at room temperature before putting it in the refrigerator as the cake needs to get rid of excess steam and be firm enough to hold the frosting and icing.
Follow these pro tips to preserve your cake at home for a long time!
Store under cake cover or large bowl
If your cake has fluffy cooked frosting, insert a knife handle under an edge of the cake cover so it isn't airtight. If you are storing your cake in an airtight container, the frosting can be totally absorbed by the cake. If you don’t have a cake cover, cakes with creamy frosting also can be covered lightly with foil, plastic wrap, or wax paper. You can insert some toothpicks around the edge and in the center to support the covering and to keep the frosting from sticking to the cover.
Freeze unfrosted cakes
For unfrosted cakes, cool it completely first then wrap in heavy-duty foil and freeze in your refrigerator. You should freeze foam cakes in the pan to prevent crushing. Unfrosted cakes can be stored in the freezer for up to six months.
Freeze cakes with frosting
Always freeze frosted cakes in a tightly covered plastic container and freeze until frosting is frozen. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap or foil and freeze for up to three months.
Always keep layer cakes in a box or cake container to prevent crushing and then wrap the box in foil or plastic wrap before freezing.
Thaw cakes at room temperature
Thaw unfrosted cakes covered and frosted cakes loosely covered for two to three hours at room temperature to maintain quality and flavor.
Preserve a cake overnight
Most cakes won’t go bad if you leave them in the bakery box or kitchen counter. You can wrap the outside of the box with foil for extra moisture retention. Use an airtight container.
Now that you know how to preserve your cakes at home and keep them fresh, you need not worry about your cakes getting bad!
